French polishing storage cabinet is a skilled craft but, using proprietary solutions, it can be tackled by anyone with patience for that special piece of storage cabinet that is beau but not faux.
Step by Step
Remove broken latch and strip wood veneer off storage cabinet top panels.
Rub down storage cabinet timber with methylated spirits using steel wool to remove lacquer.
Sand all areas with medium- grade paper to remove minor blemishes. (Note that we wanted to retain an antique quality so not all storage cabinet marks were removed.)
Wipe down all storage cabinet surfaces with a damp cloth to remove any dust and loose particles.

Cut new wood veneer storage cabinet panels to size and iron onto surface or glue plain veneer panels with thixotropic contact adhesive (this will allow slight repositioning). Allow panels to adhere.
Apply stain to all areas of storage cabinet timber and new wood veneer and allow to dry overnight.
Prepare storage cabinet polishing pad by taking a wad of cotton wool (the size of an egg) and fitting it snugly into a piece of cloth. Create an egg-like shape and twist cloth tightly behind pad.
Dip cotton pad into proprietary French storage cabinet polish solution or shellac mixture and apply sparingly in long, sweeping movements. Cover entire area and allow to dry for at least ten minutes before applying second coat. As many coats as desired can be applied, depending upon the gloss storage cabinet finish preferred.
Select and attach new latch for storage cabinet door.
